home again home again jiggidy jig

What an incredible weekend!! I have to collect my thoughts before jumping into it, but until then go here for the details, live blogging, listen to the messages and see pictures. (these 2 were on the site... i know the 2nd one was taken by the amazing jenny james. she is brilliant)

2 things though

1) PLEASE listen to the 2nd message by John Piper (Fighting for Faith with God's Word). It is incredible. They talk about it a bit on the blog, but you really need to hear it. Especially his last few points.
2) Please please please please PLEASE go and buy the newest CD "Looked Upon". It will be extra exciting for all old school CrossWayers, since it is written by Jordan and Devon Kauflin. And Devon is singing the whole time. The songs are amazing. Here are the lyrics to one of my favorites on there

I once was lost in darkest night
Yet thought I knew the way
The sin that promised joy and life
Had led me to the grave
I had no hope that You would own
A rebel to Your will
And if You had not loved me first
I would refuse You still

But as I ran my hell-bound race
Indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state
And led me to the cross
And I beheld God’s love displayed
You bore the wrath reserved for me
Now all I know is grace

Hallelujah! All I have is Christ
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone
And live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me
Oh Father, use my ransomed life
In any way You choose
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You

So, I had to cover the front desk at our studio, which is right across the street. I go over there every day around 10 to cover it for the receptionist so she can have a break. No biggie.
Well, apparently there was a talking head shoot going on... just where they bring someone in, have them sit in front of the green screen and they ask them a few questions. Nothing too big. I didn't know this shoot was going on (they happen all the time) or who it was. I normally don't care at all.
So, there I am sitting, at this HUGE desk... answering the phone. I transfer a call, and can hear someone behind me coming into the lobby to leave. Someone yells after them "thanks man" and the person says "no problem!"
At this point the person is standing next to the desk. I finish transferring the call, look up and see this face beaming down at me...
Steve Smith!!! The Panther's saving grace! The man that makes the game fun to watch!!!! One of my favorite people in the universe!!!!
His face didn't look like that actually. But I like that picture. He was smiling. Not looking scary.
So, there I am, looking at the very dapper (he was wearing a suit and in the process of taking off his tie) Mr. Smith.
"play it cool Sands..." I am thinking to myself.
He begins to walk away and I squeak/yell "HI!!!"
he turns back and grins "hi"
me:.... HOW ARE YOU????? (what??? Who asks that to someone who is LEAVING? And who yell/squeaks a question to someone only a few feet away? Apparently I do)
Steve: Um... good! How are you?
me: *pause* GREAT! *at this point I start to giggle...and can't stop*
Steve: good... *starts to walk out door* see ya
me: HAVE A GOOD DAY!!!!!
Steve: *pops head back in* you too!
me: OK!!!!!!!!!!
I only start to snap out of it as he walks through the 2nd set of glass doors... I start searching for a pen and some paper... "I wonder if Daphne will mind if I abandon the desk to chase after him for an autograph" i think...
he is taking FOREVER to get into his car... finishing taking off his tie... folding his jacket. I can make it out there. But do I want to be "that girl"? I pretty much already was based on my squeak/yelling and giggle fit at him. He probably was shaking his head thinking "crazy white girl"...
I let him leave... and then yell at the producer asking him WHY WHY WHY he did not tell me #89 of the Carolina Panthers was going to be in the studio today. I would have actually PUT EFFORT into my appearance. I would have worn real makeup, not just mascara. I would have put on CUTE clothes... GOSH!
He promised me he would let me know in the future... and that I might be able to help with the shoot. Since there would be no job for me, I would pretty much just stand there waving at him the whole time. I am totally ok with that.
So that MADE my day!!!! I am still giggling from it.
Oh yeah!
I almost forgot... YAY David Cooke!!!!!!!!
I was so excited.
Did anyone else see Ryan Seacrest try to breakdance? It was awesome

So last night was the idol finale... and tonight we find out the winner...
It is between the Davids (BTW- They opened the show with the Rocky Theme... Rocky on American Idol???? The only way it could have been better is if all of the Panthers came running out!!!)
I want David Cooke to win...
he did awesome with his songs... except for the "new song" which will be the single if he wins. It is the most horrible song I have ever heard. But he did great with the other 2. And for the first time, his hair wasn't horrible (this isn't the picture from last night. He still has horrible hair in this one)
But I am pretty sure David Archuletta is going to win. Bah. (I chose this picture because I can't stand it when he makes this face. He is the cutest kid but... no)
so David vs. David (or as Ryan Seacrest said... little David vs Big David).... we will find out tonight.

Neither of them are my Jason, Michael, Carly or Brooke, but whatever.
I don't want to talk about.

lipgloss and disapointment

I have the Today show on at work. I have been waiting for this morning for the whole week.
Because New Kids on the Block are preforming. OOOOH my GOOOOODNESSSSS.

So I just put on some lipgloss, fixed mahh haaaairs and got ready for the former loves of my life to appear on the screen.
In case you never got into NKOTB, they are Jonathan, Danny, Jordan, Joey and Donny (clockwise on the picture from the top left).
Mom once brought home a copy of People Magazine with them on the cover. That was the most awesome thing ever. I didn't care that everyone else had the dolls, pillowcases, lunchboxes, t-shirts, and... everything else. I had my magazine and that was all I needed.

moving on (if all of a sudden this post just... stops, that means the boys are on TV. I promise to come back and edit)

This week (and the one before) I have struggled with a disappointment. It was pretty big. And it hit pretty hard. The Lord has been showering me with grace, but it is still kicking my butt. (let's just say, i was reading Psalm 30:5 a LOT)
The struggle is how permanent this disappointment is. It is not something that is just temporarily being taken away from me, and might come back later. It's gone. Done. BUT God...
has been so kind to remind me that what he has for me is SO much sweeter. My plan for myself, no matter how incredible it looked, PALES in comparison to His plan for me.
And why look back and what I could have had, when instead I can look at what I do have... a perfect savior! And a creator who has something incredible for me already laid out.

Hebrews 4
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

And now sweet distractions are pouring in! Na is next week (YAAAAY!!!!!) babies are being born left and right, and friends visiting!
Thank you Lord, for your sweet care and love for your children! Thank you for not letting us go down our own paths, but for putting up roadblocks and directing us back to your plan! More than that, thank you for the gospel!

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

PS- the boys just preformed. It was hilarious and awesome and horrible and fantastic... all at the same time. The weirdest part is that one of them has horrible stage fright. He has panic attacks and pretty much became a recluse once their fame had ended. (i know this because he talked about it on Oprah once. I kid you not. I learn a lot from Oprah) Anyway, you could tell he was getting special treatment... not being interviewed, standing in the back... stuff like that. But it was still great. And I still knew every word to every song! Woo-hoo!

other bearfday

Happy Birthday Bethany!

Buffy, you are the best! Who knew that the quiet girl who needed rides to church would become one of my best friends!

Now get your hairbrush ready. If you come to Charleston, it will be needed I am sure.

light green

I am light green. Not super green. More like a mint green.
I wasn't on the "go green" bandwagon at first. Growing up in the San Diego school system, we had it beaten into us... so I would recycle without even thinking about it. We learned songs in school about not being a water hog. Or litter bug. But that was the extent I went to. I am not one to jump in with propaganda...
BUT after some thought, I did want to look for ways to be a better steward of the earth our Father created...
And it helps if there are some awesome perks that go along with it.
Sooooo I was thrilled to find out that every time you use a re-usable bag to Trader Joe's, you are entered in a weekly raffle for a bag of groceries! YES PLEASE!
You can buy the bags at Trader Joe's... they are only 99 cents. And the bigger bag (i think that one is $1.99) makes a PERFECT pool/beach bag. That is how I use it at least. In case you were wondering. Which I am sure you were. Admit it.
this Thursday is free iced coffee day at Dunkin Donuts. Last year, I went 4 times. That's right. 4 free iced coffees. Thankfully, there is no rule on how many times you go. Just 1 free coffee per customer PER visit.
I love things that are free.
Happy Monday.

bearf day

Happy Birthday Annie!

I love love love you! Never forget gummy bears, driving wild and ducks...
hurry up and have that baby. I don't care if he is the size of my thumb. I want to hold him.

everything is changing here. I am sure most of you have noticed.
People in relationships, people having babies, people having more babies... and more babies.

I am not doing any of these right now. And that is ok. I am excited for where the Lord has me now! It is has been awesome watching friends go through this. And remembering that those seasons aren't better than the one I am in. Just different. This season is a gift from the Lord as well

For example while in Ca, I talked to Anne on the phone.

At that moment she was shopping for fabric... for... something. I don't know what. Curtains? Maybe.

She was talking about being at Mary Jo's with Lizzy, and Lizzy shopped for fabric for the crib bumper.

"Oh... fun!" I said "that sounds cute. I am currently in San Diego on my way to the beach where I will play for most of the day. Then I am going out to eat and then WHO KNOWS!"

I wasn't saying that to be a total snot (just a partial one) but to remind myself of how sweet this season is. So often I feel like I am in a waiting room. But I am not. My life has started. This is part of my love story with my creator! Sure, I really want to be married. I want to have kids. That is a desire of my heart. BUT... there are perks to being single. I don't need to check with a husband before going out for coffee with some girls at night. I don't have to worry about childcare before going to a movie. I am able to plan GIRLS BEACH TRIP OH EIGHT for this summer! This season is a joy! I am able to spend time with Alathea and Abby, and look for ways to serve Jeanie with them. I will be able to spoil Baby Malament, and overwhelm him with kisses. And this is the blessing the Lord has given me!

Wow... that all just spilled out.

onto other news, on Sunday I heard quacking outside the living room window. It sounded like a duckling. Emily and I looked out on the deck, and saw the quacking was coming from...
a squirrel. He was either looking for laaaadies or had rabies. Not sure which, so I locked the door and put animal control on speed dial.
AI time.
All I have to say about last night is
Jason was horrible. He sounded bad on his first choice (I Shot the Sheriff) and forgot the words on his 2nd song (Mr. Tambourine Man) which he sounded good in. Simon told him to pack his bags.
My temptation is to vote for him millions of times to try to save him, but I know that isn't fair for the people who actually did well.
But I had to vote for him once. I would feel like a traitor if I didn't.
I also voted for David Cooke. I don't love him nearly as much, but I thought he did well, and I would rather have him than Archuletta. Like Dawn said, anyone but David A. (i think he is too young to win. I don't know if he could handle the pressure...)
But i still love Jason. And I will buy his album
Tickets go on sale next week! Thank you US government for paying for me to go! Woo-hoo!

here is the clip of Brooke...

I dare you not to cry

short one...

1) I am exhausted. The week before my trip i didn't get much sleep, and i didn't sleep much in FL... now my body is used to it and decided sleep isn't necessary. BAH

2) lets talk American Idol. I need to catch us up. We need to start a few weeks back

the day this guy got kicked off...

Michael Johns

That was the ONE week I wasn't able to vote, and did not vote for him. Horrible. He was one of my faves. I immediately downloaded all of his performances.
the next week...

Carly Smithson (aka, the Irish one) was one of my other favorites. She is awesome!
I loooooove her, and was quite bummed when she got kicked off...

Then last night...

I love love LOVE Booke! This one was HORRIBLY sad. If you did not see it, i am sure there will be re-plays all week long, and on youtube. I have never seen someone respond this emotionally to being kicked off the show. I actually teared up watching. It was so sad.

The issue is, these 3 were part of my top 4 favorites. There is only 1 favorite left... Jason. And I am HOPING he doesn't get kicked off yet. I want to him at least make it to the top 3...

I will put footage on soon... especially if I can find the one of Brooke being kicked off.
