it was the happiest of christmas'

here are 2 things that i loved about it... (there are many many more, but i don't feel like typing them all out...)

one of the best things was an ornament i bought. it was a HUGE triceratops. but one of his horns broke off, so stretch renamed him my biceratops.
since i intended to glue said horn back on, he never made it to the tree. but he sat below it, guarding it in a mighty mighty way. and i admire him for it.

next, i bought myself a gift.
one of my favorite books. i remember mom reading it to me often. once i almost bought the original french version, but i was super happy to find this one.

what i did this weekend

What I Did This Weekend by Kendra Sands:

This weekend was a special weekend.
I saw 2 of the sweetest people in the world unite in marriage!

not only that, but i had the joy and privilege to stand with them!
the Lord has been kind to give me a front row seat in the relationship of Daniel and Emily. She lived with me through their courtship, I helped Daniel pick out her ring and plan his proposal, and then got to be part of the AWESOME wedding! I have never seen such a joyful ceremony...
congrats sweet friends!

Happy almost christmas from sunny San Diego! Where today's high was in the upper 60s, and it doesn't plan on going lower than 50 all week. Aaahhh... another SoCal christmas!

wait what? i am not in san diego? i haven't spent a christmas there in over 15 years? this is CHARLOTTE weather???????

yeah. can't lie... i am a fan of Mr. Global Warming. but since it IS mid december, it only feels right to wear a scarf. with a short sleeved shirt.
my rainbow-brite tree and i wish you and yours a happy christmas...
(this should have been my christmas card. but i don't send those. so pretend it is. and maybe print it out and write a lovely message on the back from me. you can even sign my name...)

mine started early. sunday to be exact
guess where i was...

it was a glorious game. and it was fa-ree-zeeing. my dear friend Krystal supplied tickets for me and some co-worker/friends (co-workers sounds so... unfriendly. we are friends. and happen to work together. which makes it all grander). so we went to the last home game to see our boys WIN! playoffs? please?

super excited me... i didn't care that it was cold. (though i went a little nuts on the layers. tank top, long sleeved shirt, jersey, hoodie, coat, scarf, tights under my jeans, long socks and furry boots. Oh, and my mittens that i only wore for a few minutes. you will soon see why...)
Joel and his adorable new bride Kelly!
i donated my infant sized gloves to a good cause. Butner didn't think they would fit his ginormous hands. OH BUT THEY DID. and they kept his paws extra toasty
the reason why i often feel like the mother of 5 year olds. but they make the day much more fun. (the game was for Butner's belated b-day...but i pretend it was for my Christmas.)

a lot of sites are doing a list of the best videos from this year

since i can't remember all the ones i loved, i will put them up a few at a time.

first, these

this is just plain AWESOME.

if you haven't seen this one yet... i DARE you not to cry

did you ever wonder what was happening in music videos? Well, some brilliant human out there decided to help us out.  This one is my favorite. Every time i hear the real version of head over heels (which is often since it is on my ipod) i accidentally sing these words. Mainly the "really big glasses" and "check out my cool new sweater i just bought it at the gap" line

these are a few of my favorite things

Stu, Steve Young and Emmet. (before Steve was hit in the face with a paper cup. HILARIOUS)

my most-favorite ever. JuJu Pep!

my new 2nd fave... DeAngelo!!!!

I think i need a DeAngelo Williams jersey and Shaynah needs a Jonathan Stewart and we will dance like they do.

Smitty and Shake-n-bake Jake!

I guess I was a good girl this year and got my Christmas present early...38-23!!! What an incredible game... some of my favorite moments

Pep is ready...

Smitty making amazing catches. Just his thing, you know? D escapes another tackle. That is his thing. And he is more than good at it (hoping he comes into the studio this week. if so, i will propose. i will i will i will.

Shake and bake Jake passing to Stewart... who was AWESOME

and here is a little piece of my heart. field goal being kicked, and i see a hand emerge from the mass of players. i know that hand.
then BAMMMMMM.... field goal BLOOOOOOCKED. by whom? Oh, just my pep. I was repping the right number yesterday. #90 baby!

I have been giggling all morning, still so happy!

2nd today

but it is important...
this is my new favorite human ever/possible future husband if i play my cards right *crossed fingers*

his name is vincent
(ps... he can be kinda creepy when you just see him through their tinted windows... )
America, prepare to fall in love.

every kendra begins with K

christmas morning
wife opens a bunch of lame gifts. husband has a sneaky smile on his face. kids are asleep in the heaps of wrapping paper, and husband makes some lame comment about santa bringing one more gift. wife makes an equally lame comment and husband hands wife a box. wife opens it and there is a hideous necklace in there. she makes another lame comment about how santa has another gift and kisses dad. cue sappy "every kiss begins with kay" music...
annnnd scene.

no thank you.

i have never been into jewelry. i do like fun stuff, but not nice jewelry. i have never spent more than $15 on jewelery. ever.
i don't want diamond earrings
i don't want a gold bracelet
i don't want any of that.
the only jewelry i desire is an engagement/wedding ring
and this...

your eyes are being dazzled by the Chanel Camellia ring. it comes in black, white, even diamond encrusted. but the white one is the only one that has my heart.
i discovered it a couple of years ago, and came to love it.
while in CA shaynah and i took a walk down Rodeo drive, and popped into the Chanel store. my only purpose in going in was to see their nail polish colors, but...
as if light from heaven was beaming down into the store, i stumbled upon the jewelry case... and saw the ring with my own eyes.
it was the only time i have been dazzled by jewelry. i am pretty sure i left a puddle of drool for the rude sales lady to clean up.
i have no idea how much it costs. good thing too, because i would probably shovel together all the paychecks it would take to buy it.
but one day... oh, one day it shall be mine. just you wait. yes you.

you are WRONG Today show!

they said chivalry was dead. they had a full report about it.
and yes, in some places it is
but not totally
(ps, when i google image searched "chivalry", this is one of the pictures to pop up. and i am ok with that. because Charade is one of the best movies ever made. and cary grant is ALWAYS the correct answer:
who is the most charming man to ever walk the earth? should a guy wear a suit to a daytime wedding? how about to a nice dinner? are cleft chins attractive? would you like some cheese on your pasta miss? )

i think as a sgm girl, i am spoiled rotten. i don't think i have opened a door in one of our boys company in about 5 years. they always offer to drive (YES!) and walk us to our cars. i came to expect that the rest of the world was not so thoughtful...
but since then, i have gotten to know some of my male co-workers. we walked through the studio (where there is a door every 10 feet) and i didn't open A SINGLE ONE. NOT ONE.
Today at Auto Zone i bought some oil treatment that i just pour into the oil reservoir. In the 3 minutes it took for me to pour, 5 men asked if i needed help. i smiled sweetly and thanked them, but let them know i was fine. (the hood of my car was protecting me from the arctic wind, so i was actually better off...)
that is one of the perks of living in the south... gentlemen are everywhere

are you down? do you need a pick me up? did you sob after watching last night's ER with the return of Dr. Green... no? Um... me either.

But if i DID... then this website would've been exactly what i needed...

make sure you check back often. for example, as i type this, they are all sleeping. I only just learned that there are 6... not 5.
and last night they were super hyper... and a co-worker and i named all of them. we decided to use titles of narnia books
wardrobe, caspian, treader, chair and benatar (i named that one... because i like pat benatar.) since i was allowed to name one benatar, i promised that if a 6th one appeared, it would be named magician (though i wanted to name it nephew... but whatever)... and TADAAA! this morning i found magician! Yay puppies!

(this was a screen capture i did last night as we tried to name them all...)

PS- you might find yourself talking to them. or petting your computer screen. if so, do not be alarmed.

chapel THRILL

have you ever been to chapel hill? if not... GO
especially in the fall. the campus is gorgeous

shay and i went for an exhibition basketball game. over the years my love for sports has grown. my newest love is college basketball. and my team is CAROLINA BABY!

sadly, i don't own anything carolina blue. so we had to remedy that upon arriving on franklin street...

shaynah was an amazing tour guide! she gave me the history of everything, which was quite fun. i was pretty sure we had a crowd following us.

this is the old well. that is what it is called. because it is old. and a well. so there you go.

classic. the game was amazing, but we were both a little busy with the texting. what can i say... we are a hot feature. our phones were blowin' up!

I haven't talked about my boys in a while. and to be honest, i wasn't planning on it this week. because they played ugly. just plain ugly. yes, they won. but honestly, they did NOT deserve that W. except for 2 people.
but first...

honestly jake... what is GOING ON???

but on a good note, someone was on FIY-AH! Single handed-ly saving my team.
Pep... I would like to dedicate this song to you...

the other one who saved the game... well done D!

shay and i went to chapel hill/apex this weekend

sunday afternoon we went on a lovely walk with some of the apex peeps.
i was in the front with shaynah, bethany and matt.

i all of a sudden realized i was surrounded by 3 of my favorite people in the universe.
so i decided to quickly document it.
all this happened within about 4 seconds.
and it went... a little something... a-like a-this... (and yes, i said all of this out-loud. shaynah quoted me on it later)

"i haven't taken any pictures today... one...

it was a perfect moment.

Rocky: I think we make a real sharp couple of coconuts - I'm dumb, you're shy, whaddaya think, huh?
Rocky: You look really sharp tonight... i gotta go fight now. Don't leave town ok?
i don't think i could ever love another movie as much as this one.
also, Rocky might be the man of my dreams.
don't judge me.

people need to calm the heck down.

Do we not serve the King of kings? Did he not call the sea to part? Did he not create the universe? Did he not knit each of us together in our mother's womb? Did he not send his perfect son as a sacrifice?

I cried last night. I was sad and anxious, but I know I serve the Heavenly Father. This did not slip between his fingers. He is not looking down at us saying "whoops..."
Last night as I got into bed I began to pray for our President Elect. That his heart would be softened to the unborn children of the world. But even more, that his main focus would be to bring glory to his creator.

we read this in bible study this week, and it has been on my heart today

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

this one also broke my heart...
I love our mayor. He would have been an incredible Governor.

i wanted to go as the jonas brothers for halloween. no one else would do it with me.

the news came back GREAT!
nothing scary... ulcers. Creepy gross ulcers. Ulcers that are healing themselves!!!!! The doctor said he could go back to work as soon as he is ready. which was probably a bad move because i can picture him up bright and early in the morning headed out to the job.
my day got better because i got to hang out with my favorite little girl

i don't look quite right... lets just blame my excitement to see my sweet friend. we had some cuddle time, exchanged some laughs, listened to NPR and talked about the economy. Good times.
honestly if i could quit my job and just hang out with her and her momma all day... that would be the life.

psalm 46

Tuesday morning my step-dad Bobby will be going to the hospital. The doctors are trying to identify a mass in his intestines. It is one of many options, including everything from scar tissue to cancer.
We have been waiting for a week.
Anyone who has had to wait for health news, you have my sympathy and respect. It is hell. This week has been the longest, most confusing, emotionally draining week of my entire life. I prayed and prayed for Tuesday to hurry up. Now that it is here, I am terrified and wish it were Saturday again. I don't remember many conversations, details or even events of last week. Except for her.
But we serve a creator that is so powerful, he causes earthquakes, created each human life, and loves us all dearly. This didn't surprise him. It didn't slip between his fingers. And he is good.
Please pray for us tomorrow. Pray for grace for mom as she sits in the hospital, pray for strength for dad. Pray for fear to flee our hearts. pray for patience for me as i wait at work by the phone. pray for wisdom for the doctors. and pray that it ends up being best case scenario.

I know that no matter what, God is good. And our greatest need has been met!
Oh, and I get to see Kate tomorrow

Thank you!

Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

nutella makes everything better

so does Psalm 145

and holding my breath

please pray for my family
we are awaiting some hard-core health related news
details will come when we know more
until then, pray that our hearts will be full of peace, and not full of fear

"I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised
and his greatness is unsearchable."

"Sweet Lord, be thou for ever eye, and soul, and head for us, and let us be content to know only what Thou choosest to reveal." - Spurgeon
Um... yes PLEASE!
I was asking God "why?" about something today.
Then I read that. So I took back my question.

anyway the weather has become amazing in Charlotte. Nice and cool, clear blue skies, leaves changing color... makes me want to put on a scarf and walk around with a soy latte, find a nice park and read. You know that feeling? But then you walk around getting overheated, because it really isn't cold enough for a scarf, and so you start to sweat a bit, and your latte it too hot to drink, and it is too windy to read, all the pages start blowing you are pretty much miserable trying to make a lovely moment. That ALWAYS happens to me.
But the Panthers won! YEEAH! yesterday actually was quite lovely. We grilled brats, watched the game and dozed on the couch. And I didn't even wear a scarf or have a latte.

one of the few moments in the game when John Fox was NOT yelling at an ref..
looks like he is calling everyone in for a group hug

and here he and Pep are doing a little line dancing...
after a glorious and somewhat impossible looking touchdown. YEAH SMITTY!
"golly jeepers!"... that is what he was really saying. I promise
in this one, Jake is leading the group in a medley of High School Musical songs...
He always INSISTS on being Zac Efron, though Jeremy Bridges does a better job with the harmonizing

this is the most majestic picture my wee ojos have ever laid upon

it looks like it should be a movie poster

" man
...leading one team victory
...and then punching a teammate's face..."

the Steve-ON Smith Story (seriously... that is how his name is really pronounced. I would go by Steve too...)

It was a happy Sunday.
