summer continued

Have I mentioned yet that I love summertime?
Just in case you forget, I will probably mention it every week.
With new reasons. Or recap old reasons.

(again, photo creds
This morning Coldplay was on the Today show. They were playing songs from Viva la Vida. We all already know that the album is incredible. But were you aware of how sweet, adorable and nice they all are? Oh my gosh. They were being interviewed and Chris Martin was hilarious! When they started playing the title track, he started to mess up, and said "wow... i really messed that up. But you nice people don't mind, do you?" I always pictured him being somewhat stuck up and snotty. My bad Chris, my bad.
(do you see the lovely woman peeking out of the top of my head in the light green? That is Maw-maw. I adore her.)
My cousin Melissa is getting married tomorrow! So exciting! This was taken back in April at our cousin Shawn's wedding out in San Diego. I am so happy that he, his new wife Andrea, and my Aunt Sylvia will be here for the wedding! Woo-hoo! The scary thing is, so far these cousins have gotten married in age order. First Steve, then Ryan, then Shawn, now Melissa, next is... you guessed it. So we shall see what the Lord does there. :)
Anyway, Melissa is the closest cousin to me in age. We are just a few months apart. When we were about 12-14, I would spend the night at her house all the time, and we would watch the original Parent Trap... one of my all time favorite movies! We got to the point where we had the whole movie memorized. It was on TV this past Saturday, so I called her to say it was a "sign"... i don't know what it was "signing" but I assume it is something good.

The other night Shaynah made us a Syrian dinner. It was INCREDIBLE. I took pictures of it with David's new camera, but he has yet to email them. All the dishes had super hard to say names. I don't even want to try to type them. The rule was, you couldn't eat it unless you could pronounce it. Jeni and I were smart and would mumble the names with everyone when they would pronounce it. We pretty much butchered them, but thankfully no one really noticed. And Ben did a much worse job than we did. Anne pretty much mastered it. I am pretty sure she is really Syrian. The best part was when Ben asked "Can you pass... *points* that stuff..." and I replied "umm... the pitas? You can't say 'pitas'?" The food was amazing! There was silence when we all started eating. That is one thing about the Klebers... you are never lacking good food and wine when you go over there.

I have still been taking advantage of having a pool less than 1/8th of a mile from my doorstep

The past few times I have fallen asleep while reading. A few times I have awoken to find people staring at me. That can't be good. That means that I was either talking in my sleep or snoring. Neither is too adorable at the pool.
I have found the only downside to my pool-time... since I always wear my hair back, the top of my head is MUCH lighter than the rest of my hair. I really noticed it today. The top half of my hair has a brassy light reddish-brown look to it. The bottom has a dark dark brown look. And it is quite noticeable. I am not quite sure what to do about this... but I am sure I shall think of something. Until then, please do not point and laugh at my hair. I am a tad sensitive about it.

on the amazing news front...
It looks like Michael might be able to go home today! He has done fantastic since the surgery! God has been so GOOD! I was told he has been singing this song a lot in the hospital, so I thought it would be suiting to end here.
God over all
Giver of life and health and breath
I want to sing of Your love
Came as a man
Humble, You died the sinner’s death
I want to sing of Your love
Your love has saved me
By Your grace I now draw near, and
Your love has set me
Free to glorify Your name
And I, I want to sing of Your love
I’ll never forget
That You have bought me with Your blood
I want to sing of Your love
In all I do
May Your great love be shining through
I want to sing of Your love
And on that day
When You come back to claim Your own
Yes, we will sing of Your love
we’ll bow down
Praise You forever at Your throne
Yes, we will sing of Your love

the surgery went well! It was delayed a few times, and then went longer than we would have liked (biting your nails waiting by the phone... and having to wait an extra 2 hours... NOT FUN.)
We received the good news a little after 9! And everything seems to have gone smoothly!
PLEASE keep praying for Michael's recovery

This young man is one the of sweetest and most hilarious people in the world.
He is loved and adored by many.

Please remember to pray for Michael today, and the entire Connolly family. This is a day they have been awaiting for a long time.

We are asking that the Lord to guide the surgeons hands, to make everything go smoothly, and for peace for Mick, Jane and the girls. I am sure they will be tempted to be fearful this morning/afternoon, as will some friends (I have already confessed fear to the Lord many times this morning.) So pray that everyone will be reminded of truth! How awesome that we serve a loving Father!
(And now my other-brother will have an hard-core manly scar!)

I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger
and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made.
All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your saints shall bless you!
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man
your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
[The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.]
The Lord upholds all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,and you give them
their food in due season.
You open your hand;
you satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and kind in all his works. The Lord is near to
all who call on him,to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
he also hears their cry and saves them.
The Lord preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

Photo catch up...

Me and Mindy at Pops in the Park

Shay and I trying to hide from everyone, and the heat at Pops in the Park

This one is just fantastic. Adam and I were trying to show everyone just how tall he is... and just how short I am. Keep in mind, his arm is over 8 feet in the air. And I am standing. I promise

Ladies and Gentlemen... I present

YES! The Legend is true!

Here is Emily and Kok-hee at Sonny's. Yeah, we threw down.
Here is Joe's surprise 30th B-day party... the boys kidnapped him to bring him there. So sweet. Stretch had the job of pulling off the pillowcase. Brave man.

Here is Alathea picking her nose with both fingers at her Daddy's party. Eileen and I were encouraging her to do it.

Here is further proof that i AM Grill Master Sands... everyone else had eaten already, so i fixed myself a little somethin somethin

I know this looks gross, but it was incredible. I mixed feta cheese with A1 sauce and topped the burger with it while still on the grill. It was AWESOME. I think it would have been better with blue cheese (YUM) but this was still pretty awesome. And yes, that is a HUGE diet coke next to it. Those have become a "special occasion" treat only. And this glorious burger was a "special occasion"
Oh, now you are admiring my plate aren't you? Yes... I got it at Target. For $1. I have 8 of them. Some San Fran ones, London ones and NY ones. You may admire them.
hope your wednesday was fantastic.

this summer...

(photos cred:

I will be posting my own photos soon... including my lucky panther donut. And from the Sonny's trip with Emily and Kok-hee. Showing a Korean the all you can eat BBQ special... wowee. We threw down. Our waiter look disgusted with us.
but until then, these are from my favorite website in the world, Look at it. You will love it too.
my favorite things about this summer thus far
1) Kate Malament... she is a girl! Yay!!!! Can't wait till this fall!
2) the Adult Swim at the Wellington pool. Never has the sound of a whistle brought me so much joy! Though I do have to hold myself back from laughing and pointing at the kids as they whine and pout. Sometimes I just can't help myself though.
3) Breakfast dates with Mindy... so far we have had 3 this summer, and they have been awesome (PS- if you have not tried the Fractured Prune yet... do it.)
4) Q222 Banquet... ITS DONE! WOOO-HOOOOO!
5) Pops in the Park. The next 3 weeks are the best, but last night's Latin night was really fun. Watching the conductor is hilarious. We LOVE him.
6) Shay is out of school! That means morning swim practices, which means her nights are free and we can go to the pool, go to Sonic... do whatever we want!
7) Summer nights... I love that it is still light out at 8. It makes me think of Frank Sinatra's song "Summer Wind".
8) Samuel Adams summer brew. Oh my. It is soooo tasty, and it perfect for sitting on the porch

there are a billion more things... i just can't think of them.
How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

sweet summertime

Before i get too far into the post, i have the most fantastic news! One of my co-workers brought in donuts this morning. She gave me one that had black, blue and white sprinkles... not just any blue either... PANTHER blue! It is my lucky Panther donut! Do you know what this means??? WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!
One of the guys didn't understand how I went from getting a donut to the Panther's winning the superbowl in 3.5 seconds, but I think it makes PERFECT sense. So get your Steve Smith jerseys ready people!
This has been the craziest summer... and it has just started. So far I have gotten a new roommate, housed a visiting Korean, become Grill Master Sands, been invited to 4 weddings all 2 weeks apart, and NOT found out what my future malament niece/nephew is.
Oh, and my car didn't start this morning... so please be praying for that mess.

Emily and I have had the joy of having Jenna Funke (yes... funky...) move in with us. She has been such a blast! She and I have had some fun trips to the pool, and it amazes me how quickly she jumped into the group!
I have been grilling like it ain't nobodies business. This weekend alone I grilled burgers, brats and more burgers. Tomorrow I am grilling some chicken. It is the most fun ever. I think when I get married I will fight my husband for grilling duties. And I need a "Kiss the Cook" apron.

Those of you who know Emily know her heart for Korea. She and Daniel are heading on a trip out there later this summer. But it has been fun watching her reach out to girls from campus. She invited an awesome girl named Kok-hee (kooky) to live with us for a month. Kok-hee lived in NY for a couple of months, went home to Korea for a few weeks, then flew straight into Charlotte, without knowing a soul! She and Emily had been emailing, so it was already arranged that she would stay with us. It has been a blast! She is the cutest person ever. And it has been incredible viewing the area through her eyes. Little things that she is awestruck by that we totally take for granted. We drove to Sonic the other night, and she had her nose pressed to the window looking at all the trees, horses... everything

"mmm... smells....FRESH!" she announced. Then we drove by the cows "ew... no. not fresh"
She is hilarious! She LOVES the card games we have taught her, had a blast a church, and we have had MANY opportunities to present the gospel to her. God has been so kind to open opportunities to do that, just through the language barrier. The other day she asked what "sin" meant.
She also asked what air quotes were and what they meant. Try explaining that. Just try. It took us about 20 minutes.
We took her to Pops in the Park, which she loved. It is awesome seeing what a great city we live in. It is so easy to forget. But seeing how excited she gets over everything re-opened our eyes.
Oh, and the girl LOVES her meat... she is a big fan of my grilling. The brats were her fave so far!

Please pray we have more chances to present the gospel, and that her heart would be turned towards the Lord!

Happy Summer Everyone!

welcome back

It was time for a change.
It was 11:30 pm. I was not sleepy.
A change was needed.
I can't afford a new haircut... and I like the length/style of it now
except it needed a change.
And I realized what needed to happen
An old friend needed to come back
So I did what any girl would do
I put on the theme song from "Welcome Back Kotter"
stood in front of the bathroom mirror
got out the scissors
and brought back my euro bangs.

And that is the story behind the Bang Massacre of 2008

welcome back, welcome back, welcome baaaaack

some of you might be looking at this and thinking
"Kendra, they don't look any different than they did the last time I saw you"
well, to the untrained eye, that might be true.
But the fact is that I had been sporting the swoop bangs for a while. The kind that if i brushed them forward they would reach my nose. I had been rockin' those for the past 2 years. In the middle of that I introduced and temporarily sported the French Bangs which can now be spotted on Jeni Malament.
But these are my new improved choppysassyfunkyfreshcrazy bangs. I saw a picture in a magazine, and they pretty much turned out exactly how i had pictured.
And as of right now I adore them. We will see how I feel about them tomorrow. Thankfully, my hair grows at a freakishly fast rate. So I think I will be ok.

While I have you in my bathroom, let me introduce you to one of my favorite house purchases... my shower curtain. Pretty much the best one ever made

PS- Annie, look who wants to say hi...

na08 and pool dates

I normally take hundreds of pictures at Na... but for some reason this year that was not the case. I only took about 20 pics... and most of them were very boring, or just someone that Shaynah and I would appreciate.
It was an awesome year. A lot happened that gave me opportunity to apply the messages immediately. The night CJ gave the message on "the Troubled Soul" my money was stolen. It was my own stupid fault... I accidentally left my wallet at the Starbucks in the hotel lobby. When we got back to our room, I had a message from the front desk that my wallet was returned (PRAISE THE LORD!!) but when I got it all my cards, ID and what not where still there, but all my money was gone. I had brought cash so I would not be tempted to overspend while there. I am still having to deal with it...(using money NOT intended for Na in order to cover food and now having to trust the Lord to provide for THAT money) but God is good and will provide. I was able to rejoice in the fact that I had a chance to immediately apply, instead of my usual "hmmm... good message CJ. One day I might get a chance to use it" and the Lord even softened my heart to the person who took the money. I don't know their situation... that money might have helped meet some needs. So I was able to pray for them as well. And my sweet friends kindly bought my dinner that night, and lunch the next day. So sweet!
Here we are during Mark Dever's message. We were SO tired, we sat on the floor to keep us awake.

Joe's Crab Shack with Bethany
(for new readers... Shaynah, Bethany and I decided to create our own singles ministry a couple of years ago. It started out "the 24 & 23 year olds Single Ministry" and now it has no number. :)
But we have to take a picture together whenever we can.
These lunches are always so sweet. We are all running around like crazy, so you don't' get to see a lot of non-CrossWay people.... let alone CrossWay people! So usually we try to have time to catch up.

Tiffany had shoulder surgery about a month before. She came sans Andy, so it was fun having a "single girls" weekend with her. Since people kept accidentally bumping her arm, we decided the caution tape might help.
Someone else took this one. Please note how holy Taige, Shaynah and I are... giving thanks to the Lord for our meal he so kindly provided...
now notice Tiffany and Kyle. Just laughing it up.
(as a kid, I used to think that if you did not pray for your food, you would choke on it.)
This is our sweet sweet friend Jenn, who is moving up from FL and will most likely be joining the Mooresville church! We randomly met her when the church office gave her my name... she came up last fall for a job interview and needed a place to stay. She and I immediately hit it off, and Shaynah and I were able to show her the sites of Charlotte. We can't wait for her to be closer

One thing that you can't tell from these pictures was how AWESOME our seats were the whole time. Because Tif's arm could not be bumped or jostled, the ushers reserved seats for us... so we wouldn't have to fight the crazy crowds. We had great seats right up close, in the aisle, with plenty of room. The Lord was so kind. We didn't have to rush to get there 20 min early to find seats, we always knew where we were going to sit, and it was easier for everyone to find us afterwards.

For those of you who have never been, or weren't able to go this year, here is a teeny peek into Na. Josh made this for Cov Life, to be shown Sunday morning. The end was the most fun... we were waving like idiots, but you can't see us at all.

This weekend was quite sweet as well. On Saturday I had a very special visitor some and spend the morning with me

We were able to go to the pool before it was crowded. Let me tell you what... I appreciate you moms so much more after that short trip. Just getting there without a stroller, with her bag and pool float, trying to get HER up a steep hill to the pool... wow. Her hat fell off about 10 times on the walk, and I was finally able to convince her to NOT wear it. Each time it fell off, it involved me and Emily putting everything down (including her) and running after it.

But honestly, it was one of the sweetest times I have had in a while. What a joy to hang out with this sweet girl. She cracks me up. She was pretending to call all her friends and tell them that she was at the pool with me. They all went like this
"Aveyyy! (Avery) I my pool and Keyee. Ok bye."
"Kat-kat! I my pool and Keyee. Ok bye."
This picture was her pretending to call me. It was her "joke"
"Keyee... i my pool and Keyee...NO! KEYEE at pool!!!"

Jeanie, thank you so much for letting us have this time! Thank you for letting me be part of Yay-yay and Abby's lives! It is such a joy and blessing!
