my birthday is next week.
I am turning 25. Again. I have been 25 for a few years now. The first time i turned 25 was traumatic. The 2nd time not so bad. I am about to do it again. It should be easy as pie this time.
Now, please look at the following pictures, and tell me what you notice about them

Yes, these are all important men in American history/culture. The first and last ones happen to be personal favorites of mine.

But these men all have 1 fantastic thing in common. Their glorious mustaches. Mustaches make me laugh. In a good way. They bring me joy.

So, I asked all my dear guy friends to grow mustaches as my b-day present. So far, 5 of them are on board. The best part, is they will (hopefully) all be sporting their dashing facial hair that Sunday at church. For all of you CrossWayers, keep your eye out on September 7th.
This could be AWESOME.

Especially considering some of them won't be able to grow a stache in the time frame. Some of them might have what I like to call, the "mexi-stache"... you know, those little wisps of hair that blow in the breeze. Aaahhh yeah!

Let me end with my current favorite stache, the foo-manchu.
I am REALLY hoping a few of the guys go for the foo-man.

and my favorite guy who has ever sported it?

Phelps giving props to Spitz.

This will be the best birthday ever.

that is all i really have to say about that. 47-3.
The Panthers destroyed Washington.

I am so bummed the Olympics are over! I was allowed to have them on at work all morning, which was so awesome!

But one of the MOST exciting things about the Olympics was the closing ceremonies.

And that was for ONE reason...

He wasn't as awesome as he could have been, but to be honest, the man could walk out holding a cardboard guitar with rubber bands for strings and I would be thrilled. He could have showed up and sneezed and it would have made me happy. I love Jimmy Page.

Years and years ago 2 of my friends from the Apex church told me they found a picture that looked JUST like me. They went on and on about this picture.
So finally at Celebration we were walking around and had this conversation
Philip: Really Kendra, it looks just like you.
Me: Where did you see it?
Matt: In a guitar magazine
*they both laugh*
me: ok, what is the deal with this picture? Is she super ugly? Is she really gross looking?
Matt: No, not at all
me: what is wrong with her then? Why is this picture so funny?
Philip: Actually, it isn't a girl. Actually, it is Jimmy Page.
me: WHAT? You think I look like JIMMY PAGE???
Matt: No! no no. Jimmy Page looks like YOU!

So to this day, my doppelganger has a special place in my heart.
I love Led Zeppelin. A lot.
But to be honest, I am not thrilled at the idea of looking like one of the most talented guitarist in the world. Sorry Jimmy.

girlie girl girl

Oh deary me...
Who needs a calendar? I know I am in trouble when I start crying at commercials. Today is was an Olympic Visa commercial. Oh, to be a girl. What a magical lovely thing. Crying at ad space trying to encourage me to spend money by getting a credit card and buying things I can't afford. *sigh*
But, to be fair, it was the Keri Strug one, and the last scene when Bella Caroli is carrying her. *sniffle*
But, one thing that I am a sucker for is sweet, sad songs. As long as they aren't too sappy. One that I am steering clear of this week is The Park, by one of my favorite singers, Feist. Super pretty! It's about her thinking she saw the guy she loves in the park. She is pretty much having to give herself a pep talk. Trying to talk some sense to herself.

Why should he come back through the park?
You thought that you saw him but no you did not
It's not him who'd come across
The sea to surprise you
Not him who would know
Where in London to find you
Why should he come back through the park?
You thought that you saw him but no you did not
Who can be sure of anything through
The distance that keeps you
From knowing the truth
Why would you think your boy could become
The man who could make you sure he was the one?
yeah... ouch.
Anyway, how good it is to know that no matter where our minds, hearts and emotions are during this magical week, God is unchanging! His goodness, faithfulness, grace and love isn't based on circumstance. It's just how we view him that changes.
One thing that made me laugh very very hard was a cartoon I saw this week. I was going to put up a picture of it, but I couldn't find one, and I felt a little uneasy about it.
So instead let me describe it to you
It is a picture of an egg... a lady-body-egg. Not a chicken egg.
And the "swimmers" are charging to the egg. But one is wwwaaaaaay in front of all the others. and there a green line separating it from the others... there is an arrow pointing to the "swimmer" that says "Michael Phelps".
It cracked me up. For about 5 minutes straight. I went back and looked at it about 10 times throughout the day.
Anyway, that is enough of my "lady" post.

eight is great

He did it!
What an incredible moment. Right before the last swim, a bunch of us had to catch Emily and Daniel up on what was going on. They have been in Korea for a couple of weeks, and been lost in each other's eyes for the rest of the time. So they were both pretty clueless about Michael Phelps and why the number 8 was so important to him. Questions like "Who is Spitz?" and "so why is it important that he wins this one?" and even "wait, what's this guys name again?" At one point Emily got excited that Italy was swimming, and started to cheer for them. I threatened to kick her out for treason. And pointed out that this is one of the few moments our entire country is united. So lets all get on board!
But honestly, how awesome was that? We were standing for Phelps entire leg of the relay, and I was practically on the couch for the anchor.
I also have to admit I almost teared up seeing him cry on the stand.
But let me mention this... I have been watching the Olympics on a 60+ inch TV. I have been house sitting all week. We watched the swim in Hi-def.
If you thought ol' Mikey's ears were big... trying seeing that EXTREME close-up on a 60+in TV in high definition. We could see the veins in his ears. Those puppies are enormous.

Happy moment!

This actually did make me tear up a bit. I watched and interview with his mom this morning, and she said seeing the sea of photographer part and her boy running up towards her was one of the best moments ever. See, things like this make me want to have all boys. So sweet!

Oh, they arrived!

it took a while for my eyes to adjust. I haven't worn glasses in over 10 years and forgot how distorted things can look through them ( I started to fall down the stairs when I first put them on)
So thinking there was something wrong with them, I went to Lens Crafters to buy another pair that worked. I bought the most gorgeous (expensive) pair of DKNY glasses. I adored them. And then when I realized that they worked the exact same, I knew I had to take them back. So sad. SO I wore them to church for one last hurrah. When I brought them back, I told the lady not to show them to me, that it was breaking me heart. She looked at them and said "I understand"
But, everyone went to Bubba's BBQ for lunch, and that ALWAYS cheers me up!

less than 2 weeks till the beach! Huzzah!

*fist pump*
today is going to be a good day. Today is MJ's day. MJ's is a little donut place near work, and they make the BEST donuts ever. Every morning we supply breakfast for our editors and producers. Once every 3 weeks or so, they get MJ's. Whatever is left over, we get. And there is usually about 8 donuts left over, so I get to pick one of the good ones.

Also, I will have a new roommate starting next month! A week or so ago, I found out that one of my roommates would not be returning, and the girl who was thinking of taking her place would not be. And they would be out in September. I called one of my friends, Jenn, who is moving here from FL. I knew she was planning on going on the Mooresville church plant, and wanted to get an apartment, but I just threw the idea out to her. She said she would think and pray about it... but her parents may not go for it. Well, on Sunday she came to look at the house with her family, told me that they didn't even bother looking at apartments and she would be moving in at the beginning on September! JUST LIKE THAT!
Isn't the Lord SOO kind? The Lord has been so sweet to remind me of his grace, that it is never earned, never due to good behavior. I know we all know that to be true, but just realizing that it comes along at our worst moments. Mick gave a message on Jonah this week. We were all reminded that in the midst of Jonah's screw up, the Lord still showed him grace! There will still mercies! I am a huge screw up. I really am. One of those people who commits the same sin 8 billion times, and I am still shocked that it turns out bad... yeah. And yet each time, there is grace. This weekend, before Jenn told me she was moving in, I was pouting, whining, and becoming so fearful. I was doubting the Lord's care for me, and getting angry at the entire situation. Yet during that, he decided to provide me with a friend agreeing to live with me! An awesome friend that I am going to have an awesome time with! What a sweet Father we have!

Last week I had the joy to watch the Blackburn twins and Alathea. Three 2-year olds. It was like having triplets. I was a bit nervous going into it. But we had a BLAST! They were so fun!
The twins heard Alathea call me "Kenni" so they tried. It came out more like "Connie" so I told them they could stick with Kendra...

Yes CJ?
What dat?
Um... my phone
Oh. What dat?
my purse
Oh. Kedaah... what dat?
Alathea's toy
Oh. What dat?
Your sister.

I really had the most fun with them. And we get to do it again next week! But, to be honest, this might break me of my desire for triplets. But I think I would still be ok with twins. We shall see.

Thank you Eileen and Jeanie for having awesome kids!

(PS- as for the glasses, I ordered some online from a site a friend of mine uses. I was able to get 2 pairs for about $18 each! And my insurace paid for all of it! Hoorah!)

Go Michael!! Go USA!! Go Swimming!! No really, go to the pool. It is lovely out.
Honestly, this might have been one of the best moments ever. Until the next swim. That one was incredible too. But this one just made me happy.

four eyes

I went to the eye doctor yesterday. I hate going to the eye doctor. And for one reason... the air-puff eye test thing. it is to test for glaucoma, but it is horrible.

It took my old eye doctor about 15 minutes per eye. I would flinch, blink, jump back...
there is an episode of Friends where that happened. The nurse said she saw it and thought of me when i came to pick up my contacts.

So when it came time to find a new eye doctor, I asked if they did the OTHER eye test. Horizon did, so they were the winner! Plus they are like 3 seconds down the road.

Anyway, my eye doctor yelled at me about the fact that I don't own any glasses. He said that was NOT ok, considering how blind i am. "What happens if you lose a contact??" he asked.

So now I am on the hunt for some cute glasses. Ones that i might wear outside of the 5 seconds it takes from getting from my bed to the bathroom. Ones that are cute enough, i could wear to work and out and about. Not just ugly "oh, i am sick..." glasses.
Here are the ones I am thinking of thus far. My favorites cost waaaay too much, but honestly, SO CUTE
These are my faves. They are $200, but honestly, I adore them. And I would wear them EVERY DAY. And I don't think anyone else would have them. I keep coming back to these, so I might splurge on them with my flex-spending account at work.
I like these too, and they come in black ...

These also come in black and tortoise shell. CUUUUUTE. I think i would get the black ones, but for some reason it selected this picture instead.

But the pink ones keep luring me back to them. I kinda hope that i go to try them on and they look like vomit on my face so I can't get them... maybe not that bad... but you know

And I will look super smart in glasses. That is exciting.

So there ya go. Super exciting. If you see super cute glasses that scream "KENDRA" or "HUSBAND GETTING GLASSES"... let me know.
