five-oh

This weekend was awesome. The whole family (minus 1 aunt and uncle and 2 cousins) headed down to Florida for my grandparents 50th anniversary/vow renewal/wedding. Getting the Niblock's together is QUITE an event. There are 5 kids and 15 grandkids. 2 grandparents, and 1 uncle. Oh, and 3 dogs.

my cousin Evan and I bonded on this trip. I adore him.

Evan: Kendra, are you going home?
me: yup
Evan: Oh. I will miss you!
me: aw! I will miss you too buddy!!
Cheyne: Evan, will you miss me?
Evan: *pause*.... we'll see.

My grandpa's Aunt Dee. Yes, that is what you think. And yes, she wore it the entire reception. And yes, all the young boys were scarred for life.

This wasn't even the "crazy" group shot

Please note my grandpa's cousin Patty in the left-hand side. Her outfits were incredible.

Uncle Mike and Uncle Lee in their matching shirts grandma bought for them

Laurel and I hiding in the corner

This was an accident. They did NOT mean to match. But it is fantastic

Dad and Maddie

Dad and grandma...

Here we are... almost all of us.

Oh, how I do adore them.

On the American Idol note....

Sadly, I think Brooke will be kicked off. I adore her, but i think it is time. :( I

92... pt2

The 2nd lady I met last week is named Frieda
(here is her website www.friedaslife.com/)
Frieda is (was) a Jewish opera singer who escaped capture during WW2

We walked into her little house and I was greeted with a brisk nod from her. And her perfume. She was very different than Leila. As was her house! Lots of birds everywhere, lots of paintings and portraits of herself from early in her career.
But once the interview started, and her story started to pour out, I was overwhelmed. No wonder this woman wrote a book!
She escaped from being captured by the Nazi’s over 7 times!
The most incredible part of her story by far had to be one of the escapes.
She had been dating a non-jewish boy for a while. Her mother was VERY against it, and forbid them from seeing each other. They would sneak off to the catholic church to… well… at this point she winked at the camera, so I assume they read, and probably played some “go fish” and talked about their dreams and aspirations. Her mother eventually found out and that was the end of that.
Frieda moved in her with her friend Meika into a HUGE house (Meika’s husband had been captured, so she sent her children to live with her mother). One night after lights out, Frieda and Meika went into the rooms to go to bed. Shortly after they heard a commotion outside and flood lights shone into their windows. They had already made an escape plan… to hide below the dumb-waiter. They climbed in and could hear the officers trying to bang down the door. When that did not work, the men took the neighbors ladder and climbed up onto the patio. The girls heard the men ask the neighbors if she was home. They were specifically looking for her! The neighbors said she wasn’t home. Then the milk man sold her out! (ohhhhh those darn milk men)
The girls heard them breaking the patio doors-windows. The men were not able to get to the girls, due to some reason I don’t really remember because the tape started beeping into my headphones at that point, we were trying to see if we could stop her story for a minute… you can’t.
This woman has her script down and would ignore the interviewer. So I was a bit distracted at this moment.

BUT… the officers left. The girls were sure they had kept 1 or 2 standing guard, so they decided to sneak out the window. Before Meika’s husband had been captured, he hid a suitcase of gold for his wife… in case she needed to escape, she could use it to buy food and what not. The girls grabbed the suitcase, and the climbed out the window. Frieda stood in the gutter, had Meika hold onto her ankles and she fell forward, trying to knock on the window of the house next door. The man that lived there was actually only at his house about 3 weeks out of the year… mainly weekends. So she was hoping that was a night that he was home.
And he WAS!!! Moments later he opened the window and pulled the girls in.

Much later one Frieda found out why the soldiers were looking for her.
Her boyfriend had been so angry at her mother, that he went and joined the Nazi’s and specifically had sent the officers out that night to have Frieda killed!
At this moment in the story-telling, Frieda stopped talking, sat back in her chair with her hands on her lap, letting that point soak in. *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP* the tape stopped. Right there. We got it! Just barely, but we got it! We didn't even notice though, because our mouths were hanging open in shock.
Throughout her story, you could see the Lord’s hand on her life! She married a Christian Canadian solider, and eventually became a Christian herself. She is so quick to give glory to God in all details of her story. She would often break into song as well.
She is a VEEERY feisty 92 year old… refusing to go buy our script. She had her own thing down and that is how it was going to be. Who is going to argue with a woman like her? No one. We all just went with the flow.

This one ended up being quite long as well, but her story was too awesome.
2 very VERY different women who were both used in huge ways by the Lord!

don't laugh

So, I know I mentioned my love for Dolly Parton, but I don't think you all really understand the depth of my affection for this woman.
Yes, 9-5 is one of my all time favorite songs
Yes, I got super excited when she was on American Idol
Yes, I own Steel Magnolias, and I think she is the best part of the movie...
But on top of that, she is probably in my top 5 fave musicians. No joke.
On my newest playlist on my ipod, i have 2 Justin Timberlake songs, 1 Dave Matthews song, 1 Led Zepp, some other random people and 5... yes 5 Dolly songs. She is the queen of my ipod right now.
Anyway, this is one of my favorite Dolly songs.
You should download it... but here are the lyrics
Travelin' Thru
(PS- I will include the footage of Jason Castro singing it on Idol. I was thrilled that my favorite AI person sang it!)
Well I can't tell you where I'm going, I'm not sure of where I've been
But I know I must keep travelin' till my road comes to an end
I'm out here on my journey, trying to make the most of it
I'm a puzzle, I must figure out where all my pieces fit

Like a poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song
I'm just a weary pilgrim trying to find what feels like home
Where that is no one can tell me, am I doomed to ever roam
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' on

Questions I have many, answers but a few
But we're here to learn, the spirit burns, to know the greater truth
We've all been crucified and they nailed Jesus to the tree
And when I'm born again, you're gonna see a change in me

God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain
Oh sweet Jesus if you're listening, keep me ever close to you
As I'm stumblin', tumblin', wonderin', as I'm travelin' thru
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru

Goodbye little children, goodnight you handsome men
Farewell to all you ladies and to all who knew me when
And I hope I'll see you down the road, you meant more than I knew
As I was travelin', travelin', travelin', travelin', travelin' thru
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin'
Drifting like a floating boat and roaming like the wind
Oh give me some direction lord, let me lean on you
As I'm travelin', travelin', travelin', thru
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru

Like the poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song
I'm just a weary pilgrim trying to find my own way home
Oh sweet Jesus if you're out there, keep me ever close to you
As I'm travelin', travelin', travelin', as I'm travelin' thru

92

Part of my job involves having the security camera screen up on my 2nd monitor. Pretty much I just get to watch what is going on in the main room, which is where all the designers meet. It is a really awesome room, and they always forget that I can see them. For example, at this moment John is rolling his chair all over the room during their meeting. And about 5 minutes ago, Pat was picking his nose. The main reason I am spying on them right now is because there is a HUGE plate of donuts in there. I see it right on the middle of the table. As soon as their meeting is done, I am going to deliver mail. I could do it now... but I will wait. Normally they leave a donut for me. But if I am not back there within 5 min, it is gone. So I will rush back there with a stack of mail and snatch up my donut...

just thought you should know that.

On Friday I was asked to help out on a shoot for our show Everyday Woman. They interview Christian women with incredible stories. Therefore, it should be called "Incredible Women that make you feel like you haven't done anything worthwhile with your life"
We went to the homes of 2 different ladies. Both were 92.
The first one is the sweetest lady I have met in my entire life. Her name is Leila. (I don't know how to spell it, but that is how it is pronounced). I adore this woman. We were able to chat while she was getting her makeup done. She is as sassy as can be. She told the girl doing her make-up "don't let any of them (all of us in the room) see me when you are done. They will all start hollerin' 'Woo-whee... look at Miss Leila! My turn my turn' and you won't ever get out of here."
Then she accused the girl of making her look like a hussy.

She survived a school fire back in 1926 in SC. Here is an article about it
http://www.scarboroughgenealogy.com/Cleveland.htm

2 of her siblings died in the fire. One was horribly burned. Her older sister saved her life by throwing her out the 2nd story window.

her story is incredible. She and her husband had 7 children. Only 3 are still alive. Her youngest, had 3 brain aneurysms about 10 years ago (yes... 3) and survived. Leila prayed over the surgeons hands before he operated on her daughter. She had always promised to take care of her parents, so they believe that is why the Lord healed her. She now lives with her mom to take care of her. They are hilarious together!
Miss Leila and her husband were married 73 years. They eloped when she was 17 because her mom told her that she had to stay away from him... even kept her out of school 2 weeks before graduation, since she knew they would see each other there. To this day, one of Leila's biggest regrets was that she did not graduate high school. Though it was not her fault, she is still heart broken over that. (What she doesn't know is that we are in contact with the local school system and her old high school and they are planning on surprising her, presenting her with an honorary diploma and letting her walk at this years graduation ceremony. Can you imagine? This sweet little 92 year old lady in a cap and gown? It will be incredible!). She spoke so sweetly about her husband David. He died 2 years ago along with 2 of her children. I can't even begin to imagine going through that. But this woman has so much joy... she explained sanctification to the interviewer, which was AWESOME. When asked why she felt she was still here, her son yelled from the other room "God don't remember where he put momma... so he can't come back for her!" she laughed and said that she doesn't know why the Lord has her here still. There must be more he needs to teach her, or people she needs to meet. (she is so faithful to witness to EVERYONE she meets... she even answers her phone "Jesus loves you" and witnesses to the telemarketers...) But she began to cry and said that sometimes, she wishes she could go home. When asked why, she had to pause until she could compose herself (nothing is harder than seeing a little, weak 92 year old woman crying...) and said "I want to see my Lord. I want to see his face. I want to see my momma and papa. I want to see my beloved David again. I miss him. I want to see my babies that went ahead of me. But mostly, I want to see Jesus. I do love him so"
There was not a dry eye in the house. The cameraman struggled to keep it together so the camera wouldn't shake.
When we were leaving, she hugged us all. When it was my turn she grabbed my face and said "darlin' I was shocked when I was asked to tell my story. I didn't know why anyone would want to hear it. But now i know. It was so I could meet all of you. And you" then she kissed my cheek. She asked me to come back and visit. Who can say no to that?

I will tell you about the other lady later... i didn't realize how long this one was! I should assign a book report. 2 pages. On my desk tomorrow.

baseball, mascara and Paul Tripp

sometimes I get really excited.
there are time that I get so excited I shriek and clap.
I have had a recurring moment like that these past few weeks.
Today, it was because I saw this guy on Sports Center

In case you don't know what you are looking at, that is my main man, Joe Torre in a Dodger uniform. He is now the manager of my favorite baseball team. He used to be the manager of the Yankees (BLECH), my least favorite baseball team. Yet, even during those days when he was on the dark side, I still liked him. Now that he has come over to the good side, I adore him.
nay... I love him.
I also had a clapping/shriek moment last week while driving through LA. There were many Dodger billboards.
But one made me super happy
It was a big picture of Torre and just said "hey Joe."
so simple
so glorious
It was awesome.
Though we aren't haven't the best season, there is hope...
Next!!!
I bought new mascara on Sunday, and I love it. If any guys are reading this, you can never understand what that feeling is like. Perfect mascara does not exist. So, if we get even close to finding the perfect mascara... that is a call for celebration!
This stuff is almost perfect. I have never used anything that works as well, so I am tempted to go buy out every store that has it...
EDIT
the mascara is "lashblast" by covergirl.
sorry hil...

Lastly...
I read this today, and loved it. I am soooo very guilty of this!!!!

Enjoy your Wednesday.
I deem today Sushi Wednesday! (that is because I just had sushi... so everyone else should. I don't care if you like it or not... eat it.)

lets give this a try...

I am going to start to put up some pictures... it may take a few posts mainly due to the fact that I will probably get tired of putting pics up. :)

La Jolla... one of my favorite beaches in the world

beach hair and I aren't a good combo...

Huntington Beach... we went to Ruby's (the place at the end of the pier) for dinner. Anywhere you sit up there is an awesome view

Where is Shaynah?
Balboa Park...

we were trying to look like we were lost in a hot desert... but it looks more like we are disgusted valley girls

"Ohhhh maahhh gooosh... did you see Ahmerican Idoollll last night?
Tooootes! I can't even taaahlk about it...
I KNOOOOWWW... Michael Johns? He was soooo AWWHH SOMMMME!!!!"

Jehovah Jireh.... the Lord Provides

my dream house

batman and the flash in hollyweird

John Wayne

Next door to all the hand prints at the Chinese Theater is the Kodak Theater. That is where they have the Oscars... and more importantly, where they film Idols Give Back and the AI Finale. Rehearsals were going on when we were walking by. And we missed it. BAH. We tried to get tickets to AI, but no luck. I think I would have wept tears of joy... and rushed the stage. I am not sure what I would have done once up there... but it would NOT have been kicking Michael Johns off the show, that is for sure.

this is SOOO unexpected... let me just pull out this long list of names I have already prepared to thank as I practiced my speech in front of the mirror...
Soooo sad.... our last day

me, jmo and shaynah outside of the Hotel Del Coronado. We got ice cream cones and walked along the beach that night. A perfect ending to an awesome week

who knows. Shaynah and I just have a knack for these...

other home

Shay and I in La Jolla

The trip has been incredible so far!
we have had blast, and the Lord has been so kind.
It is awesome to see the little ways he has blessed the trip
one of the main things is our rental car. We wanted something with a sunroof, or a convertible, but instead we got a prius. WHAT a blessing! We have been getting 43mpg on that baby!
It only cost us $31 to fill the tank yesterday. IN LA!! There, you sell all your jewlery for gas. Or drain the botox from your face... that's right. I just said that.
There are tons of pictures to come. We will be home on Saturday night, which is pretty sad. I think it hit us today that we only have 1 day left. But is it incredible everything that we squeeze into this week. Iam in shock that we have been able to do so much, and still have time to rest on the beach every day!
3 things you need to know about this trip
1) the only thing that is sunburned is my left knee. I don't know why, but it is on FI-YAH!
2) we have seen couples making out on EVERY beach. And we have pictures of everyone of them
3) They practically know our names at the Coffee Bean Tea Leaf here. They are our first morning stop.
Please keep praying for favor. We are a little nervous with the news of all these airlines grounding planes. Hopefully Delta isn't doing that anytime soon!!!

Christmas in April!

4:30 am Shaynah and I will be at the airport... that is right. 4:30 AM.

BUT... we will be in Ca around 11am tomorrow! Woo-hoo!

It is driving me nuts being at work, when I have SO much to do at home. But the day has gone by quickly, and I am watching Rocky. What could be better?

I went by mom's last night to give her my taxes (i know how to do them... i just hate doing it) and she had a surprise for me! She gave me my Christmas present early.

For some reason I adore this movie. It is one of those that is always on TV, and I always have to watch it. That and "Hope Floats"... and "Revenge of the Nerds". I am not kidding.
So mom gave me that awesome surprise, and I was able to watch it while packing last night. I am so used to the TV version, that I forgot about the language! Whoops. But it is still a great movie.

For those of you who never saw the xanga blog, you will quickly learn of my love for American Idol. And Panther football.
I have a creepy skill with American Idol. I could pretty much do brackets on it. Last season I had it dead on for the top 6, on down to the finalists.

Right now, my faves are Brooke, Jason, Michael and Carly. But of those 4, Jason won my heart...
I am sure you can see why...

Kristy-Lee will be gone next week.
Ok... we need to pause on this topic for a moment. I am currently watching Rocky 3... and Mr. T is being so incredible. I need to meet him one day.
Also, I just saw the scene when Mick dies... and I teared up a bit. So I had to email Mickey Connolly and tell him hi and that I love him.
Ok
Back to AI
This week was Dolly Parton week. Another tidbit about me. I adore... ADORE Dolly Parton. I started screaming when she came on the screen. I had NO idea it was Dolly week. I made the roomies sit in silence whenever she talked, sang, or even was shown in the background of a shot. That woman is amazing.
Please pray for Shaynah and I in Ca! We are so excited!
See you all in a week!

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

I was so tempted to do an April's Fool on everyone today.
But I hate when people do that to me.
So I won't.

It probably would have been super lame too. A fake courtship or something. Actually, that could have been pretty funny. Hmmm...

Anyway
I refuse to believe anything anyone says today. It could all be a big April Fools.
So if you call me with any random news, I won't believe you. Wait till tomorrow to call and tell me.

Kendra, I'm getting MARRIED!!!!!!
Liar!!!!!

Kendra, we like you so much, we want to give you a raise...
I refuse to accept that as truth.

I think when I go get lunch today, and they say "Your total is $3.25." i will say "no it isn't. I don't believe you."

I like the new job so far. I answer the phone, yell at producers and editors for not turning in their work orders, and sit at the desk smiling at visitors. I feel bad for some of them, because they have to wait a while. I might challenge the next one to arm wrestle.
Our office is sooo cool. It looks like something you would see in a movie. You know, where the main character has a job that she puts too much time into, and ignores her love life? This is where she would work. IF she lived in NY. And wore fabulous shoes.
I am neither. Though I love shoes. I just buy the cheap ones.

ANYWAY

I was re-reading this CS Lewis quote...

“He cannot bless us unless He has us. When we try to keep within us an area that is our own, we try to keep an area of death. Therefore, in love, He claims all. There’s no bargaining with Him.”- CS Lewis

awesome!

Hope you all have a glorious day

3 more days till Ca!!!!!!!
