#10

10) finish my 30 before 30 list.
11) consistently take off nail polish when it starts chipping, so it stops looking like this

also, watch this
(This is Jonathan and Melissa Helser. They are worship leaders, muscisians, photographer and just cool people. They did this on their back porch in 1 take. It makes me like winter a little more. And it makes me like Melissa's boots a lot more.)

30 before 30

i am starting a goal list, of 30 things i want to do before turning 30 next September.
this is a working list. some of them are accomplishments, some are habits, some are dumb.
We can check back after Sept 5 2011 to see how i did.

i will add to it as time goes on. here is what i have to start with

1) try to like apple pie. I don't like it. I only like 1 version of it. I want to be a true America
2) own every Ryan Adams album on vinyl. (i own 4. I "only" need 7 more)
3) own half of Bob Dylan's albums on vinyl (i have 2. he has made 34. I will nix the Christmas album. That's right. he made a Christmas album.)
4) go to the gym at least 5 times a week. I was steadily going 4 times a week, then got sick. I haven't gone in about a week and a half
5) read Mornings and Evenings 5 times a week (the other days i can read one or the other)
6) make myself coffee every morning instead of going to the cafe at work
7) get a new hobby. So far it looks like it is going to be cross stitching. I started in October. So far i have made 4 items. not too shabby
8) watch more documentaries
9) get involved with a humanitarian organization (does buying Toms count? because i did that. http://www.toms.com/our-movement/)
10) finish my 30 before 30 list.
11) consistently take off nail polish when it starts chipping, so it stops looking like this
12. keep the inside of my car clean
13. read more. Lots more
14. write thank you notes and send bday cards
15. write more handwritten notes period
16. cook more. a lot more.
17. take a trip to CA and visit everyone i know and love.
18. go to bed BEFORE midnight on week nights
19. not buy anything new unless i am willing to give away something old
20. pray more. a lot more.
21. make a list of specific people/things to pray about each week. and be faithful to it
22. Make Saturday "phone date day" call out of town friends. Stop relying on text and facebook and blogs
23. Get excited about turning 30 instead of sad
24. build up my savings account
25. see another favorite/legend in concert (Happening August 2nd! Going to see Dolly!)
26. visit a new city
27. call parents on a weekly basis
28. see at least 4 Woody Allen movies that i haven't seen yet
29. buy a bike and ride it whenever possible
30. do my makeup at home, and not in the car

slm

samuel lawrence malament was born this morning
i think i want to call him "slim" since that is what his initials look like

here is how it went down at my end (since i know you would rather hear that than the birth story. gross)

4 am *ring ring* (except my phone doesn't make that noise. So i actually heard this)

i see that it is Liz. i know what this means. i try to answer the phone sounding as awake and alert as possible... though i don't know why. It's not like she isn't aware that i am sleeing at 4am.

"Hi Liz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"hey... anne is on the way to the hospital!"

"awesome! thanks!"

i rolled over and went back to sleep. about 23 seconds later (45 minutes) i hear Edward Sharpe serenading me again. it's Liz. i try to sound alert AGAIN.

"HEY!"

"soo.... he's here!"

"what? already?"

aparently Anne is super human and after only 20 minutes at the hospital Sam entered the world. hot dang.

2 minutes after hanging up i got this picture

there is more of a story behind this cute little pooper, and i will tell it tomorrow. he and i are going to have quite a story to tell people. right now, he could ask me for a rocketship and i would personally build it for him. i have never been so excited to meet a little person in my life. T-minus 3 hours till i am holding him!

nallaa feline

the title is how i pronounced "merry Christmas" in Italian this morning. It is actually "natale felice". but because i have a cold, and i am tired and absurd, that is how it came out.
here is the goings of ons.
1st, I found an adorable website (http://leafcutterdesigns.com/) which is the "worlds smallest post service". I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago and decided i must send out mini packages to a couple of friends. Liz Connolly just got her... you can see it on her blog.
B) here are some pictures of things that are real. that sentence makes no sense. But i am currently on Dayquil, as well as taking some nasty citrus tablet that is supposed to work like Zicam that tastes like chalk with a drop of orange juice. I gag every time i take it. And i used some nasal spray, which is MY JAM! I love that stuff.

This is the green bean casserole Shay made for Thanksgiving. It is a Pioneer Woman recipe. And it was aaaahhhmayyyzing

Michael coaches football at Phillip O Berry HS. His team went to playoffs so me, Shay, her parents and his parents drove up to Salisbury for the game. They didn't win. But we did cheer.
Amelies
This is the owner of Amelies. We call him Mr. Amelie. He is the sweetest guy ever. He walks around just to make sure everything is ok. One day we were joking that there never seems to be enough coffee in our french press. That we run out so soon. Minutes later he came out with a fresh one, on the house. And he called me "beautiful" the night i took this picture. We love him the best.
We had some friends over to help decorate our tree. Once everyone left we found these items shoved into the tree branches. A clock, a plant, and my roommates family picture.
And the culprit was
Ben. He also moved an owl that was on top of a tall bookshelf over to a desk, and stuffed kitchen items into the couch cushions. We weren't quite sure what got into him that night. Quite rambunctious

This is Dan. Or, as i call him, Cool Danny. He is the newest co-worker and was very excited to help with the tree. He hung AN ornament.
i love Christmas tree lots/store/things. I think they are pretty. Thus, i took a picture of one.
Monday afternoon we went into our lunch room to find it had been transformed. This picture does not do it justice. There are paper chains and fake candy EVERYWHERE. the room is huge (this is just the kitchen) and pretty much every ceiling tile had something hung from it. It was like Elf.

The other day at lunch we were talking about the clothes we wore as kids. We brought up Jams, the colorful MC Hammer style pants. We all had wonderful memories of Jams. Well, these are a pair of my step-dad's Jams. A friend borrowed them for a costume party a few years back, and i never returned them. I am going to try to talk the boys into wearing them at Christmas.
this ornament is the crowning glory of our tree. It majestically guards it. Ashley is much more traditional than i am with tree decorating, so most of my ornaments would clash horribly. but i asked if this guy could be part of it. A gift from Brenna and Juan. And i love it.
Lastly, this gem. I have a life crush on Mark Wahlberg. No shame in it. I love him. Shaynah feels the same for Christian Bale. So when we found out the 2 were in a movie together... a BOXING movie at that... well, it was like Hollywood made us our own Christmas present. Though it would probably be a Hanukkah present, since most of Hollywood is Jewish. But still. We are quite excited.

my grown-up chrrristmasss lisssst

i sang that in my best Amy Grant voice.

i have made an extensive Amazon wish list for my dad. It makes life easier. But the thing that makes it more awesome-erness, is that Amazon now has a universal button that goes on your browser... any site you are on, if they sell anything you want, hit the button and... POW, on your wish list. My Amazon list now includes a kitchenaid mixer, gold Toms shoes, even a bike.

But here is the most wish-yest part of my list... pretty things that i love and want and love and dream about. At least, once i saw them i started to... but i am not really asking for them. Just gazing at their loveliness. Do you tend to ask for more practical gifts? I wish i could ask for more frivolous things. It just seems so... frivolous.

actually... instead of including pictures, i will just do this:

everything on this website. And this one. Oh, and this one.

Right?

blogs

i have a ton of blogs that i follow. They help me get through boring days. Or not boring days. They help me get through days.

I have begun to feel very attached to these people. It is a bit absurd. If other friends follow any of them, we will get into love conversations about them. ("Did you see that Elsie dyed her hair?" "Yeah... i love it. I think it looks great. How about James' new shoes?")I enter all their contests, comment on things, follow them on twitter, attempt to talk to them on twitter. Some reply. Some ignore the crazy little girl that uses too many exclamation points.

here are the blogs, brief descriptions and reasons i follow them. You should too. They are in no order. though i could put them in "awesomeness order". but it would be a tie.

abeautifulmess.typepad.com - this is Elsie. Elsie has her own company, Red Velvet Art. She has a store filled with handmade and vintage items (think of an actual Etsy store you can walk into) and her sister Emma (redvelvetgirls.typepad.com/emma) has a sweet shoppe in the store where she sells cupcakes. Elsie is adorable and amazingly creative. She recently got engaged and is in the process of wedding planning. So she and Emma started another blog for that. It is also crazy awesome (www.leweddingparty.com/) I want to go to her store one day. I really do. Also, Emma is a sweet heart and sent me her recipe for caramel salted cupcakes. She didn't post that one on the blog, so i felt very special. Especially after getting an email from her. And she called me a doll. So we are pretty much besties.

racheldenbow.blogspot.com - Smile and Wave is Rachel's blog. Rachel is one of Elsie's best friends. She might be my favorite blogger. She seems a little more... real. She is a mom of 2 small and ADORABLE kids, she loves thrifting, and is also incredibly creative. She makes tee-pees. Yes. Tee-pees. I want one so bad. She also has the most incredible hair. I love her style, her little home, and her love for her family. She has great decorating tips and ideas. You will fall in love with her

muchomuchobuenobueno.blogspot.com/- the bueno sisters are so fun! Brandi does amazing videos on "how to"s with hair. She has her own salon. She and her sister kelly also have fun DIY projects. and they are hilarious. Brandi is hyper, like me. She makes me laugh. a LOT

taza-and-husband.blogspot.com - Naomi is darling. She is married and living in DC. She pretty much has my dream life. Super cute dog, pregnant, and she has amazing hair. AND i found out we have a mutual friend, who made the short film on her blog called "Postcards from Italy" (my friend's the Gallo's did it). She makes and sells adorable headbands and she LOVES hamburgers. Just like meeeee! She does AWESOME giveaways. I enter every time. Never won yet. One day... one day.

bleubirdvintage.typepad.com - James is so cool. First of all, her first name is James. Amazing. Second, she has an incredible record collection. I drooled over those pictures. She has a cute little family of 3 kids with awesome names (Milla Plum... so cute) including a brand new baby Gemma. She is engaged and has an adorable house in TX. I love her vintage style. Every week she posts a "what we wore" and names where each outfit item was bought. Brilliant. She also has CRAZY good giveaways. I check every day for a new one. Next to Naomi, she lives my dream life.

pureandnoble.blogspot.com - I am new to Brooke's blog, but i adore her already. She is in love with the Lord and her husband and her kids. In that order. She is really creative and funny. Her confessions post had me cracking up. My favorite thing that she does is take 2 super cute crafty ideas, and combines them. I love that. I will often look and say "i like this... but i also like this... WHICH ONE???" Brooke says "both" (look at her Christmas wreath)

designspongeonline.com - doy. right? honestly, Grace is my hero. This blog is perfection. I could just stare at it for hours upon hours. upon hours. My favorite is the DIY, Before and Afters and the "Living In" (go to categories... it is right there). "Living In" is where they take an amazing movie, and make it into a design. The one for Amelie is breath taking.

thepioneerwoman.com - if you know anything about me, you know i am already obsessed with Ree. Majorly. She has the all time best giveaways. Every week it is a new camera, or kitchenaid mixer, or something. Her blog is under 6 categories. I click on each one every morning to see if there is a new contest. She is hilarious and real and amazing and perfect. And her recipes are insane. BEST PART: every few months she cleans out her closet. She will give away clothing. Sometimes never worn. Always designer. Yeah. Crazy. If you have any free time, read her love story. Start at the beginning. I stayed up to 2am reading it one night. So good. And her stories about her brother are the most hilarious.

ok, there are a few guys i follow too.

stuffchristianslike.net - Meet Jon Acuff. He wrote an awesome book with the same title. Hilarious. I actually just "won" a phone call from him by pre-ordering his new book. He now works for Dave Ramsey in Nashville. True story: his cousin is one of my close friends at work. So when we had our phone convo, we just made fun of Josh. Another true story: his twitter is hilarious. if you have twitter, follow him. His first book is a great gift for anyone. Anyone in the world. i adore it

www.tylerstanton.com/ - I found Tyler through Jon's blog. Tyler is HILARIOUS. The highlight of my Friday is his Weekly Six. He makes me laugh often. And if you comment on his blog, he will reply. Also, his friend Tripp has an awesome blog, but he is a slacker and never updates. But you can read his back logs and laugh (trippcrosby.com/)

People I actually know:

foryouloveme.com - my friend Carissa and her husband Andrew have a great company. Their pictures are awesome. But i love her personal blog even more (www.andrewandcarissa.com/)

ohpioneer.com - Josh Abe! I love his blog. The pictures make me happy about life. Just happy.

http://www.russell-life.com/ - My love and respect for Megan has grown and grown. Not just as an old friend, but as an incredible woman and mother. And her pictures are lovely!

Ok. That's it. You have enough blogs to look at for hours and hours and waste lots of time. Enjoy!

saturday

saturday i did the following

1) best friend date at Zada Janes. Best breakfast in town. At least on Central Ave.

2) went to my new favorite store on earth: Hong Kong vintage. Fell in love with a coffee serving set that i am praying santa puts under my tree this year. Even if i have to buy it and wrap it.
3) reconds in "antique" store. I don't consider Kurtis Blow vintage (i bought them. Especially Kurtis). I met him once. (proof below. Please disregard everything about my appearance. It was 2006, and i was experimenting with "french" bangs. And i was WAY too excited)
4) evening time at Common Market. My best friend is a classy lady.

29

since turning 29:

I have gone to the gym at least 4 times a week. And love it.

I have began reading Morning's and Evening's and adore it.

I have started collecting records. It is a new hobby. Newest treasures: Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris, 2 Bob Dylans, 2 The Smiths, and Morrisey.

I have purchased to Ryan Adam's album "29" and have decided that it is my soundtrack this year. And he wrote it when he was (wait for it) 29 years old. Bam.

I have taken up cross stitching. I hadn't done it since i was about 14. I am making christmas presents. Pictures will come post Christmas. At this point i have completed 2 and finishing up my 3rd. (http://www.etsy.com/shop/andwabisabi)

I read the entire Harry Potter series.

I have become a homebody.

I have begun attending Trivia Nights.

Well done 29. We got a lot more to do before i turn...26. Lets keep up the good work.

"do a show"

so i babysit the Lechner girls every other Wednesday (except for the summer.) i have done this for over 4 years. I guess 4 1/2. And they never cease to do something that surprises me. We don't really have a set routine. The only 2 constants are that when American Idol is on, we watch "the singing show". And we call Shay-shay to leave a voicemail. that is all. Everything else is up in the air.

anyway, now that alathea is 4 1/2 and abi is 2 1/2, they are getting more creative, playful and crazy.

Last night we had a dance party. Not just any dance party. I am insisting on introducing them to good music. So we danced to Vampire Weekend. "Cousins" and "Horchata" were big hits.
After that Alathea showed me some ballet. Abi was still hearing "Cousins" in her head, so she had some more bootie-shakin' going on.
But then i had an idea. I pulled up youtube and showed them a clip from Swan Lake. Their eyes were huge. They stood completely still for about 6 minutes watching. As soon as it was done, Alathea yelled "I WANT TO SEE MORE!!"
So i pulled up a clip from the ballet Romeo and Juliet. Again, not even blinking. This clip was a good 12 minutes long. Abi just stood with her head resting against my leg watching. I have never seen her that still for that long.
It ended. Another was demanded (i had created a monster) so we watched the fairy dancing scene from Sleeping Beauty's ballet.
The moment it was done, Alathea asked if we could go outside. She immediately (and in great detail) recreated the scene we had just watched. I had to sit on the deck and was "the mommy" holding "baby sleeping beauty" and she was the yellow, green and pink fairy. Abi was supposed to be all the other ones. She danced for about 10 minutes. It was the most adorable thing.
So that was my Wednesday night. $10 says it was much awesome-er than yours.

Not me

Most girls have a dresser of some sort in their room
Usually there is a mirror on it
that way they can do their makeup, fix their hair, check their outfit.
Not me
This is the first thing I see when I wake up. Greets me in the morning

We are officially moved out of 9925 alden glen as of 4:45 today.

I handed in the key and drove away for the last time. 5 years in that house. I did get a little sad. Earlier this morning I passed Jeanie driving through the neighborhood. I thought "that is never happening again!!" and when I got in the car to leave after the walk through a country song called "the house that built me" was playing.

But I am excited! I'm getting settled in the new place, my clothes fit in the closet,(praise Jesus!) I introduced Ashely to Friday Night Lights. Its already a big hit. And, I found my closest Starbucks, and they are much friendlier than the one at the Arbors

More house pics coming soon
Oh! Shay sent me this pic from Chicago. Made my day

Shock and awe and tears

Saturday:
I had a meltdown. I had a "I want my mommy" meltdown. "why?" you ask. Because Saturday I made what I felt was a good deal of progress in packing. I moved some boxes, patted myself on the back and headed home. Then I found out that not only did I need to paint the accent walls in the kitchen but the entire thing, the entire living room and dining room/ sitting room (I knew that room was a possibility). And the roomies had to paint their rooms and bathroom (we already knew that)
So then I did what any 28 year old independent woman would do. I called my mommy and wept. If you don't know her, she is the best. She reminded me that the Lord is faithful, that He knows what I can and can't handle, and to rest in Him. She also reminded me that half of the stress is thinking about what has to be done, and that the best part is it won't last forever. There is an end date. And it is soon. After the phone call I felt tons better.
But it gets better. And that is where my friends come in.

Sunday:
Krystal came over. We started packing the kitchen. Then my hero showed up. That's right. Step-dad hero! He brougt a trailer, packed up all my furniture except my bed and drove it to the new place. Also helped me with some random fix it's here and there. And never once did he complain about the record breaking heat. Yup. And for favor repayment? "just come home for dinner soon. Mom and I miss you." yeah.
It still gets better

Today:
I left for work aware that I was one blessed girl.
I knew that 2 beloved friends were going to come and "start helping" with the painting while I was at work. Krystal had offered this during the breakdown on Saturday and Jessica had made the offer weeks ago, before we knew what all would be involved. So I expected to find some primer up, edges taped and paint cut in. That alone had brought tears of gratitude.
I got home today and found the following

And now for the kicker... After all that work...

I have the most amazing, loving, selfless friends in the world. Krystal and Jess, I can never thank you enough

end of an era

98% of you know me personally
87% of you have been to my house at some point
of that 87%, 56.4% of you know that I am moving out of that house.
and of that 56.4%, 92% of you have expressed some saddness.

I am moving. I am SO SO SO excited about it. I am moving to south charlotte, right across the street from southpark mall. I will be MUCH closer to work, and a lot closer to Shaynah & Michael and Michelle. I am moving in with my friend Ashley, who i work with. That means carpools! and that mean carpool MIX TAPES!!! and that means Glee SING ALONGS IN THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!
but, there are a lot of amazing memories from the house that I am going to miss.

I moved into the alden glen house with Dena 5 years ago. I vividly remember that first morning in the house. It was a sunday, and we came into the very empty kitchen. The sun was streaming in the huge window, and we just squealed a little.
Since that morning, many wonderful things have happened in that house. Dena got engaged in our living room. Emily and Daniel fell in love. I got the phone calls about many friends announcing they were pregnant. I taught Alathea to say "kenni" at my kitchen table. Shaynah and I became best friends sitting and laughing like idiots in my living room, kitchen... everywhere. I picked out and decorated my friend christmas tree as a grown up. Many many dance parties. DFL was born in that living room. It is the official home for our wonderful bible study. Lots of amazing times of worship, get togethers, time with the Lord and fellowship with eachother. Lots of friendships were built in this house. Lots of couples too.

Anyway, I am very excited about this next chapter. But there always is a sense of sadness. It will be hard being away from the north side of town. To be so far away from Crossway. It has been so nice to only have to drive 3 minutes to church. The new commute will be a lot longer. But i am excited about being able to serve south charlotte, invite some people from that side of town to church! Maybe we can talk the pastors into a South Charlotte CG... :)
Anyway, if you have had any wonderful, happy, funny memories in that house, share them with me!

goooooal

so every wednesday we have chapel at work. all of us go into the chapel for an hour, have short worship and a message. i actually don't mind it at all, b/c it is a nice break to the day.
but today.
oh today.
having to leave my desk and usa v algeria game... so cruel.
so there i was, with my phone on espn, watching updates of the game
the 0-0 glaring me in the face. mocking me.
so stressed
then
i see the "0" next to the american flag turn into a "1"
GLORY!
i start to silently freak out
my friend david, sitting beside me, also watching updates on his phone, looked down after my bouncing/jublient aura alerted him, saw the score and immediatly punched me in the arm in a fit of joy.
